Understanding the J-1 Visa Two-Year Home Residency Requirement

Are you currently in J-1 visa status or have you ever been to the US using a J-1 visa? If so, you may be subject to the 2-year home residency requirement (2-year Rule), a law that requires some J-1 visa holder to return to their home country for at least two years before they can access certain other visa types.

If the 2-year rule is something you would like to know more about, the UCSF ISSO will be offering a presentation discusses:

  • How to understand if you are subject to the 2-year rule
  • How to fulfill the 2-year requirement if you are subject to it
  • What can be done if you need to remain in the US even though you are subject

The presentation is offered every other month. If you cannot attend this session, feel free to register for a future presentation.
