Tax Filing Requirement for All Visa Holders
All international students, scholars, and their dependents, including spouses and children present in the U.S. under F-1, F-2, J-1, or J-2 nonimmigrant status regardless of an individual's age, who are nonresidents for tax purposes, must file Form 8843. Deadline to File Taxes
The deadline for filing the 2024 Federal and CA State Tax returns is April 15, 2025.
Federal Tax Software Access
To assist UCSF-affiliated internationals with filing their federal taxes, ISSO is pleased that we will be able to offer access to software without charge. This software only assists with filing federal taxes. To be eligible to use the federal tax software, you must be a UCSF-affiliated international. International students and scholars are responsible for submitting California state taxes at their own expense. Unfortunately, the ISSO is unable to provide state tax software access free of charge.
If you have questions about your tax documents or need access to your tax documents, please contact the UCSF Payroll and Accounting unit in the Controllers Office at [email protected].
Requesting Federal Tax Software Access Code
You must have been a UCSF student, scholar, or affiliate in the 2024 tax year to be granted access to the software. Please complete the ISSO screener to receive a GTP code. ISSO will review your request and respond within 48 business hours. Please do not contact ISSO prior to 48 hours regarding access.
