Collaborative Consortia for the Study of HIV-Associated Cancers: U.S. and Low and Middle Income Country Partnerships

Location: Sub-Saharan Africa

Description: Supports inter-disciplinary research on HIV-associated malignancies in low-and middle-income countries (LMICs) to be conducted by collaborative consortia involving partnering institutions from both LMIC and the United States.

Eligibility: U.S. citizenship, permanent residence and international applicants from Sub-Saharan Africa who meet the eligibility requirements as a multiple program director/principal investigator.

Fogarty Global Health Training Program for Fellows and Scholars

Location: Low and middle-income countries (LMICs) as defined by the World Bank

Levels of Study: doctoral students, medical students and postdoctoral scholars

Fields of Study: dentistry, medicine, nursing, public health and veterinary

Description: Provides mentorship, research opportunities and a collaborative research environment for early stage investigators from the U.S. and LMICs. Applicants develop and implement a global health research training program. At least 50% of trainee projects should focus on HIV/AIDS.

Eligibility: U.S. citizenship or permanent residence

Fogarty International Training Grants

Location: low and middle-income countries (LMICs), as defined by the World Bank

Levels of Study: doctoral students and postdoctoral scholars

Fields of Study: global health sciences

Description: Provides funding for basic, clinical and applied research and training for U.S. and foreign investigators working in the developing world. All trainees receive instruction in rigorous research design, research ethics and statistical analysis in diverse areas that are relevant to the health priorities of LMICs.

Minority Health and Health Disparities International Research Training Program (MHIRT)

Location: worldwide

Fields of Study: dentistry, medicine, nursing, public health and veterinary

Description: Funds U.S. institutions to offer short-term research training opportunities in international settings to graduate students from health disparity backgrounds. Provides training and international exposure to students to conduct research at foreign sites in the biomedical, clinical, social, or behavioral sciences.

NIH-NIDA International Research Collaboration on Drug Abuse and Addiction Research

Location: worldwide

Levels of Study: doctoral students and postdoctoral scholars

Fields of Study: behavioral/cognitive science, genetics, molecular biology, neurobiology and public health

Description: Funds research projects abroad that focus on HIV/AIDS and drug abuse; nicotine and tobacco use, the neuroscience of marijuana and cannabinoids and the impact of laws and policies on marijuana. Research must be conducted by U.S. investigators in collaboration with non-U.S.-based investigators.
